Surface Finishing Services for CNC Machined Parts
What We Offer
Once your part comes off the CNC machine, it’s technically complete—but it’s rarely ready to ship. Machined parts have visible tool marks, sharp edges, and surfaces that may corrode or wear faster than you want.
Surface finishing solves that. We offer a full range of post-machining treatments to improve appearance, durability, and functionality. Whether you need a protective coating, a specific color, or a mirror polish, we handle it in-house or with trusted local partners—so you get one quote, one invoice, and one shipping label. Here’s what we can do for your parts.
Our Standard Finishes
| Example | Finish | What It Does | Best For | Lead Time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
|
As Machined | Deburred, ready to use; visible tool marks (Ra 3.2 µm) | Prototypes, internal parts | Included |
|
Bead Blast | Uniform matte finish; hides minor marks | Cosmetic parts, pre‑anodize prep | +1–2 days |
|
Anodizing Type II | Decorative colored coating; corrosion resistant | Aluminum consumer goods, electronics | +3–5 days |
|
Hardcoat (Type III) | Thick, wear‑resistant layer | High‑wear aluminum parts | +3–5 days |
|
Powder Coating | Durable color finish (any RAL) | Outdoor, heavy‑duty components | +3–5 days |
|
Plating (Zn/Ni/Cr) | Corrosion protection or decorative shine | Steel parts, hardware | +3–5 days |
|
Passivation | Removes free iron from stainless; prevents rust | Medical, food, aerospace stainless | +2–3 days |
|
Electropolish | Bright, smooth, burr‑free surface; Ra down to 0.1 µm | Sanitary, medical, high‑purity parts | +3–5 days |
|
Mechanical Polish | Satin to mirror finish | Visible metal components | +2–4 days |
|
Laser Marking | Permanent text, logos, 2D codes | Serial numbers, branding | +1–2 days |
|
Black Oxide | Black conversion coating; mild corrosion protection | Tools, automotive, firearms | +2–3 days |
|
Chromate (Alodine) | Conductive corrosion protection for aluminum | Aerospace, electronic enclosures | +2–3 days |
Tolerances may shift slightly with certain finishes—we account for that during quoting.
Why Engineers Choose Our Finishing Services
One‑stop
We coordinate everything—machining and finishing—so you deal with one supplier, not three. You get a single quote, a single invoice, and a single shipping label.
Technical know‑how
Not every finish works with every material or geometry. We’ve been doing this long enough to know what sticks, what peels, and what causes tolerance issues. We’ll flag problems before you commit.
No upselling
If as‑machined is good enough, we’ll tell you. If a simple bead blast adds the look you want without the cost of anodizing, we’ll suggest it. Our goal is to get you the finish you need—not the most expensive one.
Fast turnaround
Most finishing operations add 2–5 days to your machining lead time. Combined with our standard 7‑day machining, you can expect finished parts in 10–12 business days. Rush options available.
Design Tips for Surface Finishing

Plan for hanging points
Anodizing requires electrical contact. Small marks from contact points are normal—designate non‑functional areas for them.

Combinations work
A part can have multiple finishes—bead blast here, hardcoat there, laser mark over here. Just tell us what you need.

Masking costs money
If you need certain features uncoated (threads, bearing surfaces, conductive areas), specify them. Masking adds labor but prevents rework.

Think about assembly
Coatings add thickness. A hole that’s exactly on spec before anodizing will be undersized after. Design for the finished condition.
Surface Finishing Services FAQs
What’s the standard surface finish for CNC machined parts?
As‑machined with Ra 3.2 μm (125 μin). That’s the default—visible tool marks, deburred edges, no extra cost.
Can you combine multiple finishes on one part?
Yes. Example: Bead blast the visible surfaces for appearance, hardcoat a wear surface for durability, and laser mark a serial number.
Will finishing affect my tolerances?
Some finishes add material (plating, powder coat), some remove it (electropolish), some do both (anodizing). We need to know your critical dimensions to plan accordingly.
How do I specify surface finish on my drawing?
Note the required finish and any areas to mask. For roughness, specify Ra value. For coatings, note type and any color requirements (RAL, Pantone, or MIL spec).
What’s the lead time for finishing?
Depends on the finish. Bead blast adds 1–2 days, anodizing 3–5 days, powder coat 3–5 days. Combined with machining, typical total lead time is 7–12 business days.
Ready to Finish Your Parts?
Upload your drawing and let us know what finish you need. We’ll review it, confirm compatibility, and send you a firm quote—usually within hours.
